Lower Calf Creek Campground — Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Lower Calf Creek is a compact BLM campground tucked into a Navajo sandstone canyon between Escalante and Boulder. It has around 13 sites, a few cottonwoods for shade, and a creek running nearby. The Lower Calf Creek Falls trail starts right here. It’s about 6.8 miles round trip to a 126-foot waterfall, and you’ll want to hit it early before the sun cooks the canyon. Sites are first-come, first-served and fill fast in spring and fall. Arrive by early afternoon and have a backup plan along Highway 12.
Access is easy. It’s right off paved Scenic Byway 12, so any rig gets in, rigs of any size included, though the sites themselves are tight. Facilities are basic, so verify water and fee status with BLM before you go, since seasonal conditions change. Cell service is basically nil in the canyon. Pack out your trash and keep fires in the rings. Have a dirty day.
