Little Missouri National Grassland Bullion Butte Dispersed Sites
Half a dozen sites scattered around the base of Bullion Butte, a prominent landmark rising from the grassland about 15 miles south of Medora. Some juniper trees provide limited shade, and the butte itself offers windbreak from the north. Fire rings at most sites, plenty of space to spread out. Locals come here for agates and fossils — respect private property boundaries marked by old fence lines.
Take Highway 85 south from Medora, then east on a section road near milepost 12. About 2 miles of rough dirt track to reach the sites. Impassable when wet, and summer thunderstorms can roll in fast. No water source nearby — pack what you need.
