Little Missouri Grassland Elkhorn Dispersed Sites
A handful of primitive sites scattered around the area where Theodore Roosevelt’s Elkhorn Ranch once stood, accessible via rough prairie two-tracks. Sites are basically level spots in the sage and grass with occasional fire rings, offering expansive views across the Little Missouri River valley. Expect total solitude most of the year — this isn’t tourist country.
The final few miles require high-clearance and can get sketchy when wet. No facilities whatsoever, and cell service is nonexistent. Spring through fall only — winter access is nearly impossible and the wind will flatten your tent anyway.
