Lehman Caves Visitor Center — Great Basin National Park
Running Bunker Hill Road and the White Pine Creek backcountry out of Baker, this is your pre-trip and post-trip anchor. The visitor center carries topo maps, backcountry information, and rangers who actually know the current conditions on the forest roads flanking the park. There’s no fuel here — nearest pump is in Baker, 5 miles east on US-50 — but you’ll get the ground truth on road conditions, fire restrictions, and whether the upper-elevation routes are passable. The gift shop carries limited snacks. The cave tour is worth the stop if you’ve never been underground in a limestone formation this intact.
The facility sits at around 6,825 feet at the base of the Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive. Cell service is marginal here and nonexistent once you head up-canyon. Stock up on paper maps before you leave Baker. Visitor center hours vary seasonally — confirm ahead in spring and fall when hours may be reduced.
