Lake Baikal Olkhon Island Ferry Landing Dispersed Area
This dispersed camping area sits along the western shore of Lake Baikal near the ferry crossing to Olkhon Island, offering sandy beach sites with direct lake access. The area provides stunning sunrise views across the world’s deepest lake, with the sacred Olkhon Island visible across the channel. Sites are self-selected along several hundred meters of shoreline, with room for 15-20 vehicles depending on configuration. No facilities beyond natural windbreaks from scattered pines.
Access is via graded dirt roads from the main Irkutsk-Olkhon route, with the final 3km potentially sandy and soft after rain. The ferry to Olkhon operates seasonally (roughly May through October) and camping here provides convenient early morning boarding. Strong winds off the lake are common — stake down gear securely. Water can be drawn from Baikal but should be filtered or boiled.
