Kruger National Park Lower Sabie Rest Camp
Lower Sabie perches on a low bluff above the Sabie River, where hippos grunt and splash through the night while elephants lumber down to drink at dawn. The 127 campsites range from basic grass pitches to sites with full hookups, all within walking distance of the river overlook. The camp restaurant serves cold Castle Lager and decent game stew, but the real draw is watching elephants cross the river from the comfort of your camp chair.
Book months ahead for peak dry season (May-September) when wildlife concentrations are legendary. The H4-1 and H4-2 roads south of camp consistently deliver big game sightings. Gate times are strictly enforced — 6 AM opening, varying closing times by season. Fuel, basic supplies, and firewood available at camp shop.
