Blyde River Canyon — Three Rondavels Viewpoint

The Three Rondavels viewpoint sits on the lip of Blyde River Canyon in Mpumalanga — one of the biggest green canyons on the planet at roughly 26km long and 800m deep. The three massive dolomite and quartzite columns are named after wives of a local chief and they dominate a view that stops even the most jaded overlanders in their tracks. It’s part of the Panorama Route and is a legitimate must-stop, not tourist-brochure filler.

The road in from Graskop or Hoedspruit is tarred and accessible to any vehicle. The viewpoint itself has a paved parking area and can get busy with tour buses mid-morning — arrive early or late afternoon to own it. No camping here, but Bourke’s Luck Potholes is just down the road if you want to keep moving south along the escarpment.
