Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park Twee Rivieren Rest Camp
Twee Rivieren sits where the dry Auob and Nossob riverbeds meet, surrounded by red dunes and camel thorn trees. The camp has 24 chalets plus camping sites with ablution blocks, a restaurant, fuel station, and small shop stocking basics. Lions regularly patrol the camp perimeter at night — you’ll hear them calling from your tent. The fossil riverbeds concentrate game during dry season, making this one of the continent’s premier spots for cheetah, leopard, and desert-adapted black-maned lions.
Access requires crossing the border from either South Africa or Botswana. The South African gate is 120km of good tar from Upington, while the Botswana entrance involves 50km of deep sand track from the village of Tshabong. Book accommodation well ahead — this place fills up during peak game viewing months (April-September). Fuel and supplies are expensive, so stock up before entering the park.
