Keno Hill Road — McQuesten River Valley Descent Viewpoint
Running the Silver Trail Highlands mining road above Keno City puts you up in the alpine, but it’s the descent back toward the McQuesten River valley where the scale of this country really hits. The road drops steeply through open subalpine scrub with unobstructed sight lines into the valley below — a wide braided river corridor flanked by spruce forest and distant ridgelines. It’s the kind of view that makes you pull over and just stand there for a minute. Overlanders heading up to the Keno City Summit or returning from the Stewart River Road junction will pass directly through this stretch.
The road is maintained gravel — rough in spots, especially post-breakup (late April through May). No guardrails on the steep sections. High-clearance 2WD gets through in dry conditions; 4WD preferred when wet. No services. Best light for photography is evening, when the sun comes around to illuminate the valley floor.
