Keno City — Silver Trail Terminus and Mining Museum Viewpoint
Keno City is about as end-of-the-road as it gets in the Yukon interior — a tiny community perched at roughly 1,800m elevation at the top of the Silver Trail north of Mayo. The Keno City Mining Museum documents one of Canada’s richest silver districts, and the hilltop above town gives a panoramic view across the Mayo highlands and Stewart River drainage. This is a legitimate historic mining town with original bunkhouses and equipment still on site, not a reconstructed tourist trap. Population is under 20 year-round.
The Silver Trail from Mayo to Keno is paved to Elsa and transitions to maintained gravel the last stretch into Keno. High-clearance 2WD handles it fine in dry conditions. Snow can linger on Keno Hill into June. For overlanders running the Stewart River Road or Mayo to Minto Lake mining circuits, this is a natural terminus and cultural anchor — worth the detour.
Silver Trail's end: mining history at altitude.
