Horsethief Point Overlook

Dramatic viewpoint above the Colorado River where Butch Cassidy's gang once hid stolen horses in the canyon below.

This spectacular overlook perches 1,000 feet above a sweeping bend in the Colorado River, offering one of Utah’s most iconic canyon vistas. The viewpoint sits at the end of a short, easy walk from the parking area, with metal railings and interpretive signs explaining the area’s outlaw history. Sunrise and sunset light up the layered sandstone walls in brilliant reds and oranges, making this a photographer’s dream.

Access via UT-313 north from Moab, then a short paved spur road to the parking area. The overlook is always accessible and free, though winter ice can make the short trail slippery. No facilities here — just the view and the wind.
