Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park Mpila Camp

Established Campground

Mpila sits in the heart of Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, South Africa’s oldest proclaimed game reserve and birthplace of white rhino conservation. The camp offers safari tents, cottages, and camping sites beneath fever trees with views over the Black iMfolozi River valley. Facilities include a restaurant, shop, fuel station, and swimming pool. Game drives from camp regularly spot the Big Five, with exceptional rhino sightings almost guaranteed. Night drives reveal leopard, hyena, and other nocturnal species.

The camp gets busy during South African school holidays and dry season game viewing peaks (May-September). Book accommodations well ahead. Roads within the park require high-clearance vehicles during wet season, though 2WD access is possible in dry conditions. Malaria risk exists year-round — take precautions.
