Scattered camping opportunities across this high plateau at around 9,000 feet elevation, reached by taking West Fork Road from Red Lodge. Wide-open grassland with incredible views of the Beartooth Mountains and Absaroka Range. Sites are basically wherever you can find level ground and stay off the fragile alpine vegetation. Can be brutally windy and cold even in summer — pack accordingly.
Access requires about 8 miles on good gravel Forest Service roads, suitable for most vehicles in dry conditions. Snow can linger well into June up here. Fire restrictions often in effect during dry periods, and weather can change fast at this elevation.
