Beartooth Pass Summit

The highest paved road in Montana at 10,947 feet, offering sweeping views across the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and into Yellowstone.

The summit sits above treeline in pure alpine tundra, where you can see hundreds of miles in every direction on clear days. A small parking area marks the actual pass, but the entire summit plateau offers stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks, alpine lakes, and the vast wilderness beyond. Weather changes rapidly here — bluebird mornings can turn into afternoon snowstorms even in August. The pass typically closes from October through late May due to snow.

This is photo-op central and a mandatory stop for anyone running the Beartooth. Expect crowds during peak summer months, especially weekends. No services or facilities at the summit itself, just raw mountain wilderness and thin air that’ll leave flatlanders gasping.
