Harquahala Mountains BLM Dispersed Camping

Remote desert camping at the base of Arizona's Harquahala Mountains with solitude and dark skies far from city lights.

Tucked against the eastern flanks of the Harquahala Mountains, this dispersed camping area offers true desert solitude about 45 minutes west of Wickenburg. The area features scattered camping spots along rough dirt roads, with most sites offering views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Expect rocky, uneven terrain that favors smaller rigs—many spots are better suited for truck campers and roof-top tents rather than large RVs. Water is absolutely essential as none is available for miles.

Access requires high-clearance vehicles and 4WD is recommended for the better sites deeper in. Roads can be rough and rocky with occasional washouts after storms. This is genuine backcountry—no facilities, no cell service, and you’re on your own. Popular with astronomy enthusiasts due to excellent dark skies.
