Grand River National Grassland Horsehead Creek Dispersed Area
Scattered sites across several square miles of rolling grassland where Horsehead Creek cuts through the prairie. Most camping happens on ridgelines for the views and wind protection. Creek flows seasonally — reliable in spring and after storms, dry beds by late summer. Fire rings present at established spots, but bring your own wood.
Access via unmarked two-track roads that branch off the main ranch road — GPS essential as there’s no signage. Road conditions vary wildly with weather; passable for any vehicle when dry, 4WD recommended after rain. Cattle present seasonally. Incredible night skies but zero cell coverage.
