BLM Grasslands Road Mile 12 Dispersed Area
A handful of established sites scattered across rolling grassland offer some of the most expansive views in North Dakota. The landscape stretches endlessly in every direction, broken only by distant buttes and the occasional pronghorn. Sites are primitive with fire rings made from local stones, and the complete absence of trees means you’re camping under nothing but sky. Wind is constant and can be fierce.
The rough two-track requires high-clearance vehicles, especially after rain when the bentonite clay becomes impossibly slick. Best accessed in dry conditions from late spring through early fall. No shade whatsoever, so prepare for temperature extremes.
