Grand Canyon National Park Desert View Campground
Desert View sits 25 miles east of Grand Canyon Village on the quieter side of the South Rim. The 50 sites are tucked in pinyon-juniper forest with some offering rim glimpses through the trees. It’s first-come, first-served only, so arrive early in peak season. The nearby Desert View Watchtower gives you that classic canyon overlook without the village crowds.
This campground fills slower than Mather, making it your best bet for walk-up sites. No hookups or dump station, but vault toilets and water are available. The Desert View area has a trading post and snack bar. Open May through October depending on weather — elevation here is 7,400 feet.
