Glenbeigh Mountain Dispersed Camping
A network of informal camping spots spread across the boggy highlands between Glenbeigh and the Windy Gap, accessed via narrow mountain roads that climb steeply from the coast. The best sites sit on relatively flat patches of heather moorland at 800-1200 feet elevation, offering commanding views west to the Blasket Islands and Dingle Peninsula. Sites are undefined – just pull off where the ground is firm and level enough.
Access requires high-clearance vehicles due to rough track surfaces and occasional sheep gates. The area is completely exposed to Atlantic weather, so expect wind and frequent rain. No facilities whatsoever – pack out all waste. Avoid during lambing season (March-May) when farmers prefer hikers and campers stay clear of grazing areas.
