Fruitbat Falls — Jardine River National Park Swimming Hole and Creek Crossing
Fruitbat Falls is the real deal on the Cape York run — a spring-fed cascade dropping into a clear, deep pool ringed by paperbarks and pandanus. It’s one of the few guaranteed swimming spots on the track regardless of the season, and after a corrugated slog north of Bramwell Junction, it earns its reputation fast. The falls sit on Eliot Creek, just a short walk from the vehicle. It’s a known congregation point for overlanders heading to the tip, so expect company in peak season (June–August).
Access is off the Telegraph Track via a signed turn, navigable by any capable 4WD. The creek crossing immediately south requires a read before committing — depth varies with recent rain. No facilities on-site; this is a stop-and-swim, not a campsite. The Jardine River NP permit covers access — sort that at Bramwell Junction or the Jardine River Ferry before you get here.
Best swim on the Cape York Telegraph Track.
