Falls of Hills Creek — Monongahela National Forest Cascade Viewpoint
Falls of Hills Creek sits just off US-219 south of Marlinton on the Monongahela National Forest, and it punches well above its weight for a paved-road pullout. Three distinct falls drop 25, 12, and 66 feet respectively through a tight hemlock and rhododendron canyon, with a well-maintained USFS boardwalk trail connecting the overlooks. The lower falls at 66 feet is the second-highest waterfall in West Virginia — worth every minute of the short hike down to the platform. For overlanders linking Lewisburg to the Virginia Highlands, this is a legitimate fuel-stop-and-go POI that’ll reset your headspace after a long gravel stretch.
Access is signed off US-219 near Hillsboro, WV — paved all the way to the trailhead lot. No fee, no reservation. The boardwalk trail has some steep sections with stairs but is manageable for most. Best visited spring through early summer when flow is peak. Can be icy in winter — the shaded gorge holds frost long after surrounding roads clear.
WV's second-tallest falls, right off the trail.
