Complejo Ecoturístico Batopilas — Riverside Campground at the Canyon Floor
Batopilas sits at roughly 1,600 feet elevation at the bottom of the Batopilas River canyon — a silver-mining ghost town that feels like it fell out of another century. The Complejo Ecoturístico is the established camping option in town: a shaded, grassy area along the river with basic facilities. It’s nothing fancy — pit toilets, a fire area, and cold water if the pipes are running. The vibe is quiet and local. A handful of rigs max; this is not a gringo campground resort. Expect heat in summer, and a lot of stars at night.
Access is via the infamous Batopilas road — 2.5 to 3 hours of narrow, single-lane dirt from Creel. High-clearance 4WD is mandatory. The road has exposure and blind corners. Plan for a full half-day down, same back up. No fuel in Batopilas — carry what you need. Cell signal is essentially nonexistent on the descent and marginal in the village.
