Ciudad Perdida Teyuna Trek Trailhead
El Mamey village marks the beginning of the challenging 4-6 day trek to Ciudad Perdida (Lost City), one of South America’s most significant archaeological sites. The trailhead features basic parking, certified guide check-in, and last chance for supplies before entering dense Sierra Nevada cloud forest. Only authorized tour operators can lead groups — independent hiking prohibited.
The dirt road from Santa Marta takes 2-3 hours through increasingly rough mountain terrain. High-clearance vehicles recommended, especially during rainy season when river crossings can be treacherous. Most overlanders park in Santa Marta and arrange transportation through tour operators.
