Caribou-Targhee National Forest — Juniper Buttes Road Dispersed Camp

The Juniper Buttes area north of the Snake River Plain sits within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest boundary and BLM-managed lands along Forest Road corridors running off US-26. Dispersed sites here are nothing fancy — flat-ish dirt pull-offs among low sagebrush and scattered juniper, but you get enormous Snake River Plain views and genuine solitude. It’s the kind of camp where you wake up to pronghorn and silence. No developed facilities of any kind. Fires allowed where not restricted; always verify current conditions with the Caribou-Targhee Palisades Ranger District.

Access via gravel and dirt two-tracks off US-26 or the Paved Coffer Road corridor — most routes are passable with a high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but can get greasy fast when wet. Nearest water and resupply is Idaho Falls, roughly 25 miles east. Snow can close access roads from November through March.
