Cape Cross Lodge Campsite — Cape Cross Seal Reserve
Cape Cross is where the Benguela Current slams into the Namib coast and roughly 100,000 Cape fur seals make their opinions heard at full volume. The campsite sits inside the reserve boundary, managed by Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, with basic ablution blocks, flush toilets, and cold showers — nothing fancy, but solid infrastructure for a remote coastal stop. The smell hits you a kilometer out. The wildlife spectacle makes up for it completely. Expect wind. Expect noise. Expect one of the most alive nights on the Skeleton Coast.
Access is via the D2303 off the C34 coastal road from Henties Bay — around 60km north on graded gravel, passable for high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions. Pay your reserve entry fee at the gate. Book ahead during Namibian school holidays or you’ll find it full. This is the closest established camp to the Messum Crater–Brandberg West corridor without heading all the way back to Swakopmund.
100,000 seals. One raw Atlantic camp.
