Brandberg Massif — White Lady Rock Art and Highest Peak in Namibia
The Brandberg is one of those landmarks you see from 80km out and can’t stop staring at — a massive granite dome erupting from the flat gravel plains like a fist through the earth. The White Lady shelter in Tsisab Ravine is the headline act: a well-preserved San rock painting panel that’s drawn researchers and overlanders for decades. NWR rangers at the base run mandatory guided walks to the site — budget two to three hours. The massif also holds thousands of other rock art sites and is Namibia’s highest point at 2,573m.
Access from the D2359 off the C35 north of Uis — it’s a reasonable gravel road suitable for high-clearance vehicles, though the final approach to the car park can be corrugated. The site sits roughly 20km east of Messum Crater and around 60km from the coast. Avoid midday in summer — it gets brutal on that exposed granite. Visit June through September for sane temperatures.
