Canning Stock Route — Well 5 Sandy Creek Flat Dispersed Camp
This is old droving country, raw and indifferent. The ground around Well 5 opens into a wide sandy flat flanked by spinifex and desert mulga — classic Great Sandy Desert terrain that’ll eat your tyres if pressures are wrong. No facilities whatsoever. You’re camping on station track margins under a genuinely black sky, with the bore infrastructure as your only landmark. Carry all water in; the historic well is not a reliable potable source. Fire restrictions apply in hot months — a shovel and a fire plan are non-negotiable.
Access is directly off the Canning Stock Route track, roughly 35 km north of Wiluna. Sand conditions fluctuate — after summer rain the track can develop deep loose sections requiring tyre pressures around 18–22 PSI depending on load. Low-range 4WD mandatory. Satellite comms only out here. Fuel up completely in Wiluna before departure. Best season is May through September; summer heat is dangerous, not just uncomfortable.
CSR Well 5 — sand, stars, zero services.
