Camping Municipal de Cochrane — Patagonia Overland Basecamp

Established Campground

Cochrane’s municipal campground sits on the edge of town along the Río Cochrane, giving you actual running water, hot showers, flush toilets, and fire rings — all the stuff you want before or after running a long remote stretch like Paso Roballos. It fills up during summer (Dec–Feb) with a mix of cyclists, motorcyclists, and overlanders converging on this last real service point before the plateau. Capacity is reasonable and the vibe is social — expect to trade route intel around the fire.

Access is straightforward from Ruta 7 (Carretera Austral) right in Cochrane town center. Cochrane itself has fuel (YPF/COPEC), a grocery store, and a mechanic — critical resupply before heading toward the Argentine border at Paso Roballos. Open year-round but the road north gets brutal in winter. Cell signal is partial in town.

Last hot shower before the plateau.
