Burwash Landing — Kluane First Nation Heritage Site and Lakeshore Viewpoint
Burwash Landing sits at the north end of Kluane Lake, roughly 290 km west of Whitehorse on the Alaska Highway, and it punches well above its size as a waypoint. The Kluane Museum of Natural History here is small but genuinely good — stuffed with local fauna, First Nation history, and gold rush artifacts. The lakeshore viewpoint at the village edge looks south down the full length of Kluane Lake with the front ranges of the St. Elias in the background. On a clear evening it’s hard to leave. This is a critical stop on the Kluane Lakeshore Route and the Slims River West Bench Road corridor.
Fuel is available in Burwash — verify hours before relying on it, as they can be limited off-season. The Burwash Landing Resort has historically offered basic services but check current operating status. Past the village heading northwest, services disappear until Beaver Creek near the Alaska border, roughly 100 km away.
