BLM Red Rock Canyon Open Area Dispersed Sites
This sprawling BLM area stretches for miles along the base of the red rock cliffs northeast of Ridgecrest, offering hundreds of potential camping spots across flat desert terrain. Sites range from pull-offs right off the main dirt road to more secluded spots tucked against the cliff base, with most offering panoramic views across the Mojave Desert. The area can handle everything from single vehicles to large group gatherings, though weekends and holidays see heavy use from OHV riders and rock climbers.
Access via Abbott Drive from Ridgecrest leads to a network of decent dirt roads suitable for any high-clearance vehicle. No facilities whatsoever — pack out all trash and bring your own water. Fire restrictions often in effect during summer months. The area stays busy with climbers year-round, but camping disperses enough that finding solitude is usually possible.
