BLM Dove Springs Dispersed Area
This well-known BLM dispersed camping area sits in classic Mojave Desert terrain dotted with Joshua trees and volcanic rock formations. Multiple established camping spots spread across several square miles, each offering different levels of privacy and wind protection. The area serves as base camp for the extensive OHV trail network including Jawbone Canyon and connects to numerous 4WD routes through the El Paso Mountains. Expect crowds on weekends, especially during cooler months.
Access is via good gravel roads suitable for any vehicle, though some individual camp sites require high-clearance. The area can get dusty and windy, so scout for sheltered spots behind rock outcrops. No amenities whatsoever — pack out all trash and bring your own water. Fire restrictions typically apply May through October due to extreme fire danger in the desert scrub.
