BLM Raven Rim Dispersed Area
Elevated camping area along Raven Rim offering dramatic overlook sites perched on sandstone bluffs 500 feet above the Red Desert floor. Sites scattered along the rim provide unobstructed sunrise views and star-gazing opportunities. Several protected sites back in the juniper trees offer wind protection. Popular with photographers and astronomy enthusiasts. Strong winds common — secure everything. No water available and fires restricted to portable stoves only due to extreme fire danger.
Approach road climbs steadily for 6 miles with several loose rock sections requiring careful tire placement. Two-track becomes muddy and impassable when wet. Best accessed in dry conditions only. Winter access possible but expect snow and ice on the mesa rim.
