BLM Alkali Creek Dispersed Area
Alkali Creek cuts through classic Red Desert country — rolling sagebrush flats broken by red rock ridges and alkali playas. Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere on BLM land here, with several established spots showing fire rings and cleared areas. The scale is enormous, with 360-degree views that stretch to the Wind River Range on clear days. Wildlife includes pronghorn, sage grouse, and occasional wild horses.
Access is via well-maintained county roads, though GPS can be unreliable in the vastness. No facilities whatsoever — pack out everything and bring your own water. Wind can be fierce, so stake down gear securely. Spring and fall offer the best weather, with summer bringing intense heat and thunderstorms.
