Blackstone Territorial Park Campground — Liard Highway Corridor

Blackstone Territorial Park sits on the south bank of the Liard River, roughly 25 km southwest of Fort Simpson on NWT Highway 1. It’s a government-operated territorial park with designated sites, pit toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables — modest but legit. The site has a raw, boreal feel: spruce forest, river flats, and the kind of silence that reminds you you’re deep in the Northwest Territories. It gets used by local anglers, canoeists staging on the Liard, and overlanders running the Liard Trail south toward Nahanni Butte. Not crowded, ever.

Access is off NWT Highway 1, which is gravel south of Fort Simpson — expect washboard and muddy stretches after rain. The park is run by the GNWT Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Seasons are short here: June through September is your window. Cell service is nonexistent. Water from the river — treat it. No hookups, no dump station.
