Indian Creek Campground — Yellowstone National Park
Indian Creek Campground sits at roughly 7,300 feet near the base of Bunsen Peak, right where the Gardner River bends through open meadow and lodgepole. It’s one of Yellowstone’s quieter campgrounds — 75 sites, first-come first-served only, no hookups, and a straightforward vibe. Swan Lake Flats and its bison herds are visible from the road here, and Bunsen Peak Road’s south end is practically in your backyard. This is the right camp if you want to wake up and be on the route before any tourist traffic rolls through.
Open mid-June through mid-September typically, depending on snowpack. No reservations taken. Water is available on-site but treat it as a moving target — verify before arrival. No showers, no dump station. Bears frequent this area; food storage compliance is enforced by rangers. Road into the campground is paved.
