Mammoth Campground — Yellowstone National Park
Mammoth Campground sits at around 6,200 feet just north of Mammoth Hot Springs, making it the go-to base camp for anyone running Bunsen Peak Road. It’s one of only two Yellowstone campgrounds open year-round, which matters when shoulder season hits and the rest of the park shuts down. Paved loop roads, 85 sites, and proximity to the Mammoth visitor center, fuel, and hot springs terraces make this a practical staging point rather than a backcountry experience. Expect full sites on summer weekends — it fills fast.
First-come, first-served only — no reservations. Bears are active here; hard-sided storage is mandatory. Cell service is partial at best. Access is paved all the way in. Elk roam the campground regularly, especially in the rut.
