Saddlehorn Campground — Colorado National Monument
Saddlehorn is Colorado National Monument’s primary campground, often listed interchangeably with Fruita Campground since it sits in the same developed area near the Saddlehorn Visitor Center. Around 80 sites across two loops, with flush toilets, drinking water, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. The pinyon-juniper canopy provides real shade — a bigger deal than you’d think in a Colorado desert in July. Mule deer walk through camp like they own the place. Weekends from April through October are consistently packed.
Accessible via Rim Rock Drive, the monument’s main paved scenic road. RVs up to 35 feet can fit in designated sites. The Glade Park Road backcountry and Rattlesnake Canyon trailheads are a short drive south and west from here — makes this the logical basecamp for that entire corridor. Fires subject to monument-wide restrictions in dry seasons.
