Fruita Campground — Colorado National Monument
Fruita Campground is the go-to basecamp for anyone running Glade Park Road or poking around the monument’s backcountry. Seventy-one sites spread across two loops — most have a fire ring, picnic table, and access to flush toilets and drinking water. The canyon walls glow red at dusk and the stargazing is legitimately good when the Grand Junction light dome isn’t too heavy. Sites fill fast in spring and fall — don’t roll in on a Friday expecting to wing it.
Paved road all the way in off Rim Rock Drive. Bear in mind this is a fee area and reservations are highly recommended from March through October. Generators restricted to certain hours. No hookups. Year-round access, though winter nights at 4,500 feet get cold. Cell signal is partial at best inside the monument.
