BLM Winnemucca District — Soldier Meadows Road Dispersed Camp

Soldier Meadows sits in a tucked-away basin in the far northwestern corner of Nevada, anchored by a working ranch and famous among desert travelers for a series of natural geothermal hot springs that seep up right at ground level. The BLM dispersed camping in the surrounding public lands is genuinely remote — flat desert camping with greasewood and rabbitbrush, big sky, and the kind of stillness that makes you realize you drove a long way from anything. The hot springs are the draw for most overlanders looping through the Calico-High Rock country, and they’re worth every mile of washboard to get here. No developed facilities; pack out everything.

Access runs north from Gerlach on paved NV-34 briefly, then transitions to the rough gravel and dirt Soldier Meadows Road — expect significant washboard, soft sandy sections, and no services for the entire approach. High-clearance 4WD is the call, especially if you’ve had any recent precipitation. Confirm road conditions with BLM Winnemucca before committing. Cell service is nonexistent throughout the approach and camping area.
