Winding Stair Campground — Ouachita National Forest
Winding Stair is a legit USFS developed campground in the heart of the Ouachita high country, right off the Talimena Scenic Drive on US-259 near Muse, Oklahoma. Fire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, and a handful of well-spaced sites under a canopy of pine and hardwood. This is a known stop for riders doing the Talimena, hunters working the national forest, and overlanders linking between the ridgeline roads and the lowland forest. It’s not fancy, but it’s solid and established.
Access is paved right off US-259 — easy entry for any rig. Season is generally spring through late fall. Can get busy during fall foliage and hunting season; show up mid-week if you want your pick of sites. No hookups, no showers. Check with the Choctaw Ranger District for current fee status and any fire restrictions before you roll in.
