Coronado National Forest — Oracle Ridge Road Dispersed Camp

The north face of the Santa Catalinas above Oracle is a different animal from the Tucson side — quieter, less trafficked, and sitting at the crossroads of two distinct sky island plant communities. Forest Road 38 and its spurs push through oak woodland and into mixed conifer as you gain elevation, and Coronado NF dispersed camping rules apply throughout. You’ll find pullouts and flats suitable for 1–3 rigs along the road corridor. Views north toward the San Pedro Valley are wide open when the trees thin out on the ridgeline. No developed amenities.

Access from Oracle via FR 38 requires high-clearance, and 4WD is smart once you leave the main road on spurs. The road can be rough after monsoon season — July through September expect washed sections and loose rock. Snow is possible November through March at the higher elevations. No water source on-site; stock up in Oracle or Tucson before heading in. This is bear and mountain lion country — store food accordingly.
