Coronado National Forest — Redington Road Lower San Pedro Dispersed Camp

Redington Road cuts northeast out of Tucson through the lower Santa Catalina foothills and drops toward the San Pedro River Valley, and dispersed camping along the Coronado National Forest sections of this corridor is about as real as desert overlanding gets in southern Arizona. Creosote flats, saguaro slopes, and wash crossings define the terrain. No developed facilities, no fee, no crowds — just the Sonoran Desert doing its thing. Space for several rigs if you spread out along the road corridor.

High-clearance two-wheel drive handles most of this road in dry conditions, but wash crossings can turn gnarly fast after monsoon rain. Best seasons are October through April — summer heat here is not a suggestion, it’s a survival variable. Fire restrictions are typically in effect May through monsoon onset. No water on-site; carry everything from Tucson before you roll.
