Glen Canyon NRA — Starr Springs Dispersed Camp
Starr Springs sits at the base of the Henry Mountains south of Hanksville, managed by the BLM as part of the Henry Mountains Resource Area. There’s a small developed campground here, but the surrounding BLM land allows dispersed camping on open benches nearby. The spring draws wildlife — including the free-roaming bison herd — and the cottonwood shade is genuine relief in warm weather. It’s one of the last reliable camp zones before the road drops into the Waterpocket Fold country heading toward Bullfrog Marina.
Access via the Starr Springs Road off UT-276 south of Hanksville. The road is maintained dirt, suitable for high-clearance 2WD when dry. Flash flooding can close access routes. The BLM Henry Mountains bison herd roams freely in this area — give them space. Nights are cool even in summer at around 6,000 feet. No hookups, no dump station, no potable water at dispersed sites.
