Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest — Kingston Canyon Road Dispersed Camp

Kingston Canyon Road (NV-376 to FR 20) follows Kingston Creek up into the Toiyabe Range, and dispersed camping opens up once you clear the lower private land corridor. Sites sit under cottonwoods and willows along the creek bottom, with the canyon walls rising fast on both sides. It’s raw, quiet Basin and Range country — no crowds, no fees, no services. Fire restrictions apply in summer; check with the Austin Ranger District before you build one. Bring all your water or filter from Kingston Creek.

Access is straightforward on a maintained dirt road — most rigs with moderate clearance handle it fine in dry conditions. Upstream sections get rougher toward the wilderness boundary. Snow typically closes upper canyon roads November through May. No signage marks specific sites; you find your flat spot and claim it. Stay limit is 14 days. Nearest fuel and resupply is Austin, roughly 25 miles north on US-50.
