Baker — US-50 Loneliest Highway Gateway and Fuel

Population roughly 60. Baker sits at the junction of US-50 and NV-487, right at the eastern foot of the Snake Range. It’s your last chance for fuel before the next serious stop is Ely, 63 miles northwest, or Delta, Utah, 100 miles east. The Border Inn on the Nevada-Utah state line has fuel and a casino if you’re running the eastern approach. In Baker proper you’ve got a small motel, limited groceries at the Sinclair station, and the NPS Great Basin Visitor Center on the edge of town. The cell signal here is functional — use it, because it disappears the moment you turn toward the mountains.

For overlanders staging the Bunker Hill Road or White Pine Creek routes, Baker is the staging town. Fill every tank and water container here. The nearest real hardware or auto parts is Ely. Don’t assume the Sinclair has every grade of fuel — diesel is typically available, but verify before you arrive with an empty tank and a diesel rig.
