Longs Peak — East Face and Diamond Viewpoint

Standing at 14,259 feet, Longs Peak is the northernmost fourteener in Colorado and the crown of Rocky Mountain National Park. The Diamond — a vertical granite wall above 13,000 feet — draws climbers and photographers from across the world. From the Longs Peak Trailhead area and the Mills Moraine approach, the east face is brutally visible on clear mornings, a wall of shadow and stone that reminds you exactly where you are. No guardrail, no interpretive sign, just mountain.

The viewpoint corridor along the trailhead road gives overlanders a genuine look at this face without committing to the 14-mile round-trip summit push. Best light is early morning. Parking fills fast on summer weekends — arrive before 6am or expect to queue on the road shoulder. No services at the trailhead beyond pit toilets.
