Denali Highway — McLaren Summit Viewpoint

Sitting at roughly 4,086 feet, McLaren Summit is the high point of the Denali Highway and one of the most dramatic roadside pullouts in Alaska. On a clear day you’re staring straight at the Alaska Range — Hess, Hayes, and the whole glaciated wall — with the McLaren Glacier spilling out of the mountains to the south. The tundra rolls away in every direction and the air has that thin, clean bite to it. This is the kind of view that makes you stop the rig, kill the engine, and just stand there for a while.

Located around Mile 34 of the Denali Highway, accessible in any vehicle running the gravel road. Exposed and cold — bring layers even in July. Early September can bring snow squalls at this elevation. No facilities, no services — just the view. Check road conditions before heading out; the highway typically opens in late May and closes by mid-October.
