Tangle River Inn and Campground — Denali Highway Mile 21

Tangle River Inn has been a lifeline for Denali Highway travelers for decades. It sits at roughly Mile 21 east of Cantwell, right where the Delta River headwaters spill through the Tangle Lakes chain — big sky, open tundra, and the Alaska Range filling the horizon. The campground is basic: gravel pads, outhouses, and fire rings, but after a long washboard grind it feels like civilization. The inn also offers fuel (verify availability before you go), food, and a phone — all rare commodities out here.

Access is straightforward — this is right on the Denali Highway itself. The road is gravel and rough in sections; plan for slow miles. The campground typically operates mid-June through mid-September. Cell service is effectively zero out here, so if you need fuel, confirm hours via satellite communicator or phone ahead from Paxson or Cantwell before departure.
