Susuman — Municipal Campground and Truck Staging Area

Established Campground

Susuman is one of the few genuine towns on the Kolyma Highway between Magadan and Yakutsk, and it serves as a real resupply and rest point for overlanders and long-haul truckers alike. The municipal staging area on the edge of town functions as a campground by necessity — flat ground, access to fuel, and proximity to the small town market make it the de facto overnight for anyone running the Road of Bones. Basic pit toilet infrastructure exists. It’s a Soviet-era town with zero frills and maximum utility.

The area sits at roughly 800m elevation in the Kolyma highlands. Summer season is June through August — temperatures drop hard in shoulder months. Gold mining operations in the surrounding hills mean heavy equipment traffic on local roads. This is a fuel and logistics stop as much as a camp, so treat it accordingly. Verify services on arrival; the town’s population has shrunk significantly since the Soviet era.

Mid-Kolyma fuel, rest, and regroup.
