Reserva Nacional Cerro Castillo — Camping Confluencia
Camping Confluencia is the main established camp for Reserva Nacional Cerro Castillo, sitting at the trailhead for the four-day Cerro Castillo Circuit. CONAF manages it; you get cleared sites, a pit toilet block, and views straight up at those savage black basalt spires. The Río Ibáñez runs close by — you’ll hear it all night. It fills up fast in high summer with trekkers, so overlanders rolling through mid-week December through February need to claim a spot early. Off-season it’s practically yours.
The camp sits right off the Carretera Austral roughly 75 km south of Coyhaique near the Villa Cerro Castillo village. Access is easy — paved/gravel Carretera right to the turnoff, no technical approach needed. CONAF charges a small entrance and camping fee. Rangers are on-site in season. Water from the river — filter it. Strong afternoon winds are standard; stake everything.
